About Ratnakar Narale

Ratnakar was born in Nagpur and lived in a small town called Katol where his father was a farmer plus a lawyer. He did BSc from Nagpur University, MSc from Pune University, PhD from IIT, Kharagpur and PhD from Kalidas Sanskrit University. He was working at FCI, Namrup, Assam, India when he came to Canada in 1969 with eight Dollars in his pocket. Today, in 2022, eighty years old and a Brain Hemorrhage Survivor, Ratnakar is fully active in teaching Hindi and Sanskrit at various institutions and promoting Bharatiya Sanskriti in the world. His musical and literary works are blessed by such great souls as Atal Vihari Vajpayi, PM of India; Basdeo Pandey, PM of Trinidad and Tobago; Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, Federal HRD Minister of India; Ashok Singhal, President, VHP; Bharat Ratna Ustad Dr. Bismillah Khan Trust, Padmabhushan Ustad Sabri Khan, Padmavibhushan Amjad Ali Khan, Padmashri Ustad Ghulam Sadiq Khan, Ustad Rashid Mustafa Thirakwa, Farukaabad Gharana; Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Min. External Affair, Govt. of India; Shri Yogi Adityanath, CM of UP, India, etc. and he has received numerous honors in Canada and from India.

     Prof. Ratnakar Narale is one individual in Canada who is promoting Hindi, Sanskrit, Music and Bharatiya Sanskriti through Classes, Journalism and vast number of published Books, for last 53 years. Since year 1970, he has been teaching Hindi, Sanskrit, Music, Gita and Ramayan to young and old Indian Diaspora from Mauritius, Guyana, Trinidad, Surinam, Fiji and to the descendents of Indian people living in Canada, as well as the local Canadian English Speaking non-Indian people. He has taught Hindi in all three Universities of Toronto and in the Toronto District School Board and York Board of Education. He has taught Sanskrit and Gita in many private Institutes including the legendary Hindu Institute where he was the Pradhanacharya. He has educated his students and brought them to the Indian roots.

     In 70’s when there were no Personal Computers, he produced hand written and typed educational material for his classes. When the Xerox machines became popular, his capacity increased. In 80’s when IBM personal Computers and Data Processing Softwares became popular, his efficiency sky rocketed and he founded “Pustak Bharati,” a Publishing and Copyright Plus company.” He developed Devanagari fonts with complete Devanagari compound characters, stand alone vowel signs and symbols, Indian music score codes and accentuation marks for Roman transliteration in order to typeset his own Hindi, Sanskrit and Music books complete with English transliteration and music notations. His special Indian Language fonts include Sarasvati Hindi font, Ratnakar Sanskrit font, Canada English Transliteration font, Vanakam Tamil Font, Narale Gurumukhi font and Namaste Urdu Nastaliq and Naskh fonts.

     In 90’s World-Wide-Web became popular and Pustak Bharati designed Free Online Hindi Lessons for the Hindi learners across the Globe. These free and priceless lessons became so popular at one time that his website had over a million visitors per year. He won National and International awards, including “Hindu-Ratna” Award from the Govt. of Canada, “Hindi Vishva Samman” from Govt. of India, and “Sangitacharya” Samman from the Canadian Hindu Mission Centre.

     Today, (1) his precious titles in Hindi Literature include: सारेगम संगीत गुरु, हिंदू राजतरंगिणी, अठारह महापुराण विद्या, कालिदास के आठ महाकाव्य, भवभूति के तीन महाकाव्य, कालिदास के शकुन्तला की छंद मीमांसा, कालिदास के मेघदूत की छंद मीमांसा, कालिदास के ऋतुसंहार की छंद मीमांसा, शंकराचार्य के विवेकचूडामणि की छंद मीमांसा, श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता की छंद मीमांसा, गीता का शब्दकोश और अनुक्रमणी, गीता ज्ञानकोश, गीता दोहावली, बालकृष्ण दोहावली, राधाकृष्ण दोहावली, काव्य कृष्णायन, काव्य रामायण, रामायण दोहावली, शिवाजी चरित्र दोहावली, संगीत श्रीसत्यनारायण व्रत कथा, पातंजल योगसूत्र दीपिका, गीत रत्नाकर, मेरे भजन, इत्यादि. The शकुन्तला की छंद मीमांसा, मेघदूत की छंद मीमांसा, ऋतुसंहार की छंद मीमांसा, विवेकचूडामणि की छंद मीमांसा और गीता की छंद मीमांसा are his most precious books on prosody. This छंद मीमांसा trend initiates a new faculty in Sanskrit Literature.

     (2) His most popular books written for the English Speaking people are : The Thorough Devanagari Teacher, Sanskrit Primer, Sanskrit Teacher All-in-One, Sanskrit Grammar and Reference Book, Critical Research into Bhagavad-Gita, Hindi Teacher for Hindu Children, Learn Hindi Through English Medium, Tamil Teacher, Urdu Teacher, Gurumukhi Teacher, Bengali Teacher, Marathi Teacher, etc.

     (3) His Pustak Bharati Research Journal (ISSN 2562-6086) is the first and only Research Journal in Canada dedicated to promoting Hindi and Indian Culture. The Research Journal has Board of Directors from over twenty countries of the world and contributors of research articles are from all these countries and numerous cities of India.

Contributions :

Ratnakar Narale's four major contributions are :

(1) Sowing seeds of Hindi Language in people through classes, books, articles and journals in order to provide everlasting benefits.

(2) On one hand he has developed effective and innovative educational materials and on the other hand he has published educational and cultural books to help people in India and the Indian Diaspora from Mauritius, Trinidad, Guyana, Suriname, Fiji etc.

(3) He is spreading love for Indian culture outside India and assisting these people to come back into Indian society, making their future generations India lovers. The belief behind this auspicious work is that each seed of rich Bharatiya Sanskriti you sow will grow in to a tree and its seeds will then spread further and further for ever. In last 53 years he taught Hindi, Sanskrit, Music, Gita and Ramayan to thousands of children, youth and adults.

(4) Ratnakar's voluminous writings on such important topics as Sanskrit grammar and prosody; divine literature of Valmik, Vyas, Kalidas, Bhavabhuti and Shankaracharya; composition of world’s first and only Savistar Bhagavad Gita composed wholly in Sanskrit Anushtubh Chhanda; extraction of Vidya component form all eighteen Maha-Puranas; Musical aspects of Sam Veda; lexicon of the Gita; Chronology of all Hindu Lineages from the ancient times to the Independent India, Composition of world’s first Krishnayan, Composition of his own musical Ramayan; Composition of life of Shivaji from ancient origin of the Rajputs to Shivaji’s passing away in year 1680; Language learning books for various Indian Languages; International Journalism and Creation of various language fonts, etc. are the reflections of his unique multi talented personality.
